Automatically Finding Numbers

Featured Replies

This one has me totally stumped. I'm creating a database for Matchbox cars. I have a table name Catalog set up that includes: Number, Letter, Variation, Name, Color, Interior, Wheels, Decals, Etc. I have a table named Car Finder. In this table the user can enter pertinent information to find which car he has. Example: If he clicks in Number he can select from any car number. Then he clicks in Name and only the names for that number appear, on down throught the line to where her can select the wheels and description. I've got that set up to work flawlessly. Now for my problem.

This is what my fields look like:

Number: (1)

Name: (Mercedes Truck Lorry)

Color: (Mint Green)

Interior: (None)

Glass: (Clear)

Wheels: (Black Plastic)

Base: (Green)

Description: (Orange Canopy)

All information is selected form drop down lists and pertains to that model. In my catalog I have a field that shows the number, letter and variation in one field. Is there any way that when the user enters all the above information it can automatically display this field?

Variation: 1-A-4

After all the fields are filled in there is only one possible answer, but I can't seem to figure out how to get this to happen. Thanks for everyone's help. Here's a sample of the file.

You can create a concatenated calc field of Number & Name & Color & Interior & Wheels etc for both your tables. Then create a relationship between these two tables keyed on the concat fields. You can then just put the Variation field from your catalot field on the layout.

However, why go through all this trouble? why dont you just performt he find in the catalog to begin with?
