seeeker Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 What are the odds of this: I am creating a layout for labels, and in the "Specify Label Layout" dialog, it asks for the specific label size code of the labels I have purchased, in orderto automatically generate the correct measurements. In the dropdown there are numerous label codes, seemingly every one possible EXCEPT the one I have. They are all Avery ...., series numbers going from up from 4000, with other ones. I have L7159. After 6000, it skips to 8000. What the So I will probably now have to laboriously nudge things around manually until it's right? With this label situation, every step there is some problem, I swear it's harder than putting a man on the moon. Any advice? Thanks!
RodSierra Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Create a new layout and set it custom label size. Measure the labels per dimension references listed in the menu pitch and height. Make sure you are leaving a good portion of margin area when you place your fields, as different printers have different margin requirements. I use a standard size paper to test with, then just lay the actual label sheet under it to check margins and placement. Yes takes some messing with as different printers have different margin requirements.
seeeker Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 I'm doing that and of course it is not working. It is a game of figuring out how to control the margins, determining what dictates the spacing - the margins in the layout? - the alignment of the fields in the layout? - the header? And why can't you edit a layout once it's created? You can't duplicate or delete it, but you can't edit it? So I keep deleting it and recreating it each time I fiddle. Am I missing something there? >>"Measure the labels per dimension references listed in the menu pitch and height." What does that mean? "dimension references"? "menu pitch"? I have input the correct mlabel size, there are default margins - this is ridiculoud and taking me all day to do this. Sorry to be frustrated but it just couldn't be easy could it...
RodSierra Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Every printer has different minimum margins. Choose custom layout and you will see references to dimensions for the width of the label including spacing between them (pitch). Adjust these settings on the same layout as you need to, no need to create a new layout.
AnneES Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 All Avery labels beginning with the letter "L" are A4 sizes. In the FMP application folder go to the subfolder Extensions:Labels(inactive). There is a list of country specific label files here. I know the file called LabelsAus.flb includes all the metric avery labels. Move this file to the Extensions:Labels folder. This should solve the problem - well it does in Australia anyway!
Adam Dempsey Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Do the correct label files needs to be enable on the users computers or just for development? IE if I do that and use eg L7165 on a layout, will my users machines all need that template enabled too?
