March 27, 200718 yr Hi! I have two files on two computers at remote ends of the internet. The filemaker file A opens filemaker file B in a script across the internet and they import and export data to and from eachother as well as do set fields from one file to another. Question: Is there a plugin or tool that can radically encrypt ALL communications between two filemaker files on a filemaker level with say at least 40 bits? The info is semi sensitive and I want the datastream to be encrypted. In fact does filemaker do operations like that in "the clear" anyways? Thanks Spongebob
March 27, 200718 yr Data between copies of FileMaker Pro client are not encrypted. data between FileMaker Server and FIleMaker Pro client can be encrypted. So you could get FileMaker Server and put it at one end of the system. Or you could send the traffic over a VPN. Steven
March 28, 200718 yr Author Thanks Steven, with regard to VPNs/tunneling; can you recommend a product I could use on two PCs (the two PCs that need to communicate). - can it be done only in software? - do I need the same product on either side or is there a client / server part to VPNs? - Is there a freeware option? - which product would you recommend for WinXP? Thanks, as you can see Im new to VPNs. Spongebob Edited March 28, 200718 yr by Guest
March 28, 200718 yr No recommendations for any VPN. Basically on the receiving end of the system (at the central network location) there needs to be a VPN program running on a node exposed to the Internet. From the distant locale a connection is made using the VPN client software to that node. This creates a secure tunnel using the public Internet. Both Windows XP Pro and Macintosh OS X have built-in VPN clients. Steven
