March 29, 200718 yr Hey everyone, I am trying to install Filemaker Server 7 Advanced on an intel mac running the latest version of Mac OS X. As soon as I install the web publishing engine I can no longer start apache. Has anyone come across this? Do I need to upgrade to Server 8 Advanced to get this working on an intel mac? Any thoughts or suggestions is greatly appreciated. P.S. Server and web publishing are both on the same computer. I have set up this same configuration in the past without problems but it was on PPC macs. Edited March 29, 200718 yr by Guest
March 29, 200718 yr server 7 will not work on an intel mac. Even versions of server 8 will not work on intel macs without upgrading to 8v4.
March 29, 200718 yr Author That is what I was afraid of. Thanks for the quick reply. I was pulling my hair out and could not find any information one way or the other.
May 3, 200718 yr Newbies Yes it does. We were running it just fine on an intel mini running OS X server 10.4.8 until we upgraded to v8. The speed difference is quite amazing.
May 3, 200718 yr You were probably running it under Rosetta, and that isn't a supported or recommended process. Steven

You're running FMSA8 on a Mac Mini? I didn't think you could do that, I thought I had heard/read somewhere that a mini is not enough machine to do the job well. How's it working for you? Is it just a 'stock' mini or have you ramped it up somehow?
May 25, 200718 yr I'm another person running FMSA8 on an Intel Mac Mini with good results. It is definitely possible. Some will say you are crazy. Read this thread for a wide variety of opinions on this topic: http://fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/184046 In my particular case, it's a Core Duo Mini that's was upgraded to 2 gigs of RAM (allowing a server cache of about 400MB), and booting from external firewire 400 drives. The internal SATA drive interface is actually faster than external FW400, but the stock drive that ships with the mini is usually very slow (4200RPM). So you'd either want to put in a better internal drive, or use good external drives. This points out a bit of a hole in Apple's product lineup -- I could really use something in between the mini, and the mac pro and xserve. There are rumors that the mac mini product line is being terminated. Perhaps by WWDC we'll get some new info?
