Newbies edly Posted April 10, 2007 Newbies Posted April 10, 2007 How do you pass a Filemaker variable (such as $$doohickie) into Applescript? I can't get Applescript to recognize any FMP 8.0 variables.
Fenton Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 You have to use a global field. AppleScript doesn't see FileMaker script Variables.
Homer Posted April 14, 2007 Posted April 14, 2007 It is possible to pass FileMaker script variables to Applescript but the power is limited by the fact that the AS has to be stored (and interpreted) inside FileMaker. As Fenton said, using a FileMaker field(global!?) is more powerful for data exchange between these 2 technologies. But probably slower than exchanges that would be using direct memory variables. If someone found the trick to accomplish this, thanks a lot for sharing with us. So, to pass FileMaker variables to a "local AppleScript", you have to use the "Perform AppleScript" script step found in the Scriptmaker. It is late here so I didn't test it... But I think the AS has to be placed as a calculated applescript in the script step. See the demo included with this post for more info: S4H_FmScriptVariableAndLocalApplecript.fp7.zip
