bhavanams Posted February 23, 2001 Posted February 23, 2001 How to use AND OR both in the same page. I have a problem when working with "AND" and "OR" using CDML. My problem is "I have a search page for searching the database. In that search page i have 2 sets of input fields. For one set of fields the logical operator AND/OR should be assigned according to the user selection. And for the second set of records the logical operator should be always "AND". I think you guys understand the exact problem.I don't know how to implement this in my search page.Is that possible to assign "OR" for oneset of fields and "AND" for other set of records in the same page? If so please let me know. I'm eagerly waiting for your replies. Advanced thanx for u all. Sree [This message has been edited by bhavanams (edited February 23, 2001).]
Keith M. Davie Posted February 24, 2001 Posted February 24, 2001 bhavanams inquires, "Is that possible to assign "OR" for oneset of fields and "AND" for other set of records in the same page?" It is possible to assign. That is not the question you should be asking. The question is, Is FileMaker's tiny brain able to perform a search using two different LOP's? (Does FileMaker like to mix metaphors?) The results (non-results) you have been getting should give you an indication of the answer. It may be that you will have to structure your searches differently to achieve the ends you desire. Personally, I eschew both those operatives. I like to use an exact search to find the first group of records followed by another exact search. Or, I like to structure so that an exact search of two or more fields can be utilized to achieve the desired results. So far, my experience is that the end user should not be trusted with selecting the proper LOP. This means the developer must be creative. Peace Keith M. Davie
