"If" calculation where result two equals existing field data

I am trying to create a SetField script step that validates a records status and changes the status to "Renewal" if the record has expired, here is the calculaton:

If (

RunSheet_PP::Date >= RunSheet_PP::Validate; "Renewal";"VARIABLE?"

)

Where I have "VARIABLE?" I am looking for a value that will leave the fields existing value unmodified. Please help.

Set the field to itself to leave it unmodified.

You could also move the condition from calculation to a script step.

I must have misunderstood somthing, if I put "itself" where I had "VARIABLE?" it just replaces all of the valid fields with the text "itself".

Where did I go wrong?

You need to use the field's name - unquoted.
