Newbies bstone Posted May 11, 2007 Newbies Posted May 11, 2007 I have a filemaker program that I have set up to record data and it is server based, however our staff would like to be able to access this from home and add data from home, rather than going into work to do this. My idea would be to add the program to our web page and have a username/password in which the staff can access and enter data from home. How can this be done? And how difficult is it? I hope someone can help Thank you
mr_vodka Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Although it is limited, you could make use of Instant web publishing. You can download the IWP guide here. IPW guide link
Newbies bstone Posted May 12, 2007 Author Newbies Posted May 12, 2007 Thanks for the link. I have heard that this method can be dificult and that the best bet might be to allow staff to install FileMaker at home and use it to connect to the main database remotely. However I am not sure exactly how this works. Can anyone explain this tom me please?
Newbies scottysfo Posted May 14, 2007 Newbies Posted May 14, 2007 You'd be suprised how easy IWP is. And if all you need is for users to do is simple data entry, searching and viewing then IWP could be the right solution for you. However, I have used VPN software as another option so that users, who have loaded the FileMaker application on their home computers, can connect to databases at work. The speed for this has been excellent.
