valid values after relation is made

im getting a valid value error (This field cannont be modified until "field" is given a valid value) only after I make the field relational to another table. Cant find any errors in the validation tab so im lost. anyone?

It's not a field validation error, but a problem in the relationship. See the relevant help section.
