FMPro 4: Won't hold pagelayout change.

After using FMPro4 for years on XPPro, all of a sudden (no apparent reason)changing page orientation from Portrait to Landscape won't hold: on screen it looks landscape, but prints in Port. and when I look at page setup again the setting has reverted to Port. Also, then FMPro "suddendlly" quits. Happens with networked files, and local files. Different files too.

Any idea what's up?

Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling the program?

Otherwise, look for something that *has* changed -- invariably something has.

Thanks for the suggestion and quick response. I did try reinstalling to no avail.

I think you're right about the "changes" being the issue, but there are no obvious ones, and some, like XP updates, that are too hard to investigate. I may have to upgrade, and that isn't something that will be easy coming from 4. Do you know if it can be done straight to 8.5 from 4? What interim version is necessary? Almost all of my 4 files are flat, not relational.

The old FM versions were very finicky when it came to printers. If a PC's default printer was removed we saw all kinds of strange things happen including the symptoms that you have described.

As Vaughnn noted, a fresh install usually fixes things and you will also have to crack-open any scripts that contain print steps and refresh them with the new printer.

Version 7+ handles printing much better.
