lizzie Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Greetings Am a real newbie so I apologise if this questions appears daft to many of you! I am interested in using the Button Set-up "Send Mail" function. In our company's system we create orders for products from suppliers. One of the fields within the order is the sales person's name: "creator" which is "Indexed, Creation Name, Can't Modify Auto". The problem we experience is that our stock controllers don't always alert us when items come in which are attached to an order and which can then be allocated to an invoice and delivered to the client (goodness I hope I'm making sense!). I want to have an "email sales person" button which can be clicked when the stock has been booked in against an order. The sales person will then receive an email alerting him/her of the arrival. Theoretically I would assume that one could do the following: -Create a field for the email address of the sales person -This field will be an "if then" statement where the command will be: if creator = salesperson_a, email address = [email protected]; if creator = salesperson_b; email address = [email protected] etc etc. -I could then use this specified email field with the "Send Mail" function. Right now, I am sitting with two independent fields. i.e. one has to manually select the sales person's email address and hit the "email" button and it worls beautifully. I want to eliminate this manual selection as we have 15 possible people that the email could go to and a drop down list leaves too much room for human error. I have tried the "if then" statement as mentioned above but FileMaker keeps telling me that it cannot find the specified field and consequently highlights the sales person's name... This is probably something really simple and I look forward to kicking myself when someone points out what an idiot I have been!
Genx Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Hi Monsta, Welcome to the forums!! Lol, i love the word daft, but you don't have to bring your self down to get help on these forums, we're all beginners at something at some stage Anyway, the if / then statements probably aint the best of ideas, instead see if this relational example helps you out. relational_example.zip
lizzie Posted June 3, 2007 Author Posted June 3, 2007 Genx - thank you so much for the help... Took me a bit of time to dissect everything but it makes sense and I've learnt how to include even further info in the body of the mail... Much appreciated!
