Can't access filemaker server admin on mac

Featured Replies

Hello

I am having a problem accessing the admin console on filemaker server 8.

The server is a mac mini serving 8 other macs

If I mount the server volume on my computer and then try to open the admin console I get the message "cannot connect to server" even though I am already connected to the server.

If I attach a screen to the actual server I still get the same message. This is the only application I can't open

I am trying to place a database file on the server and need to open it so it can be viewed by everyone - is there any other way of opening it without going thru the console. Any help would be gratefully appreciated as this is urgent and I am tearing my hair out (or whats left of it)

You should make sure its running first... Ah, on windows you would look at services, on Mac, help guys?

Hi

Sorry for the delay in replying

was caused by admin not running

Just needed to restart the server machine

thanks

This is an indication that you have this system setup incorrectly. You should not be able to mount the server volume from anywhere. Turn file sharing off before you damage your files.

First, do as Steven says. Then check that port 5003 is open on your firewall. Use the Open Remote command from FileMaker to see the files. Use the Server Admin tool to see what their status is on the FileMaker Server. In other words, it's all FileMaker, not the operating system.

Except you do have to set the correct OS X permissions for the files, using the Get Info command, or better, a dedicated tool (I use Privilege Fix). Look at the example file in the Library, FileMaker Server, Data folder to see what they should be. Make sure the files are stopped before doing this. FileMaker Server will open and host the files even if the permissions are wrong, but you won't be able to edit anything.
