Scanning for Unused Blocks (Not Sure where to Post this)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm not sure where to post this. On some of my databases when I open them I get a Dialog and progress bar that states it is "Scanning for Unused Blocks"

What is going on here and can I do something to clean my data to prevent this from happening? I have tried compacting and or recovering and it does not seem to help.

What are the "unused blocks" that are being referred to.

Thanks,

Steve

FMP is removing deleted data from the file, and taking out all the empty space, thereby reducing the file size. It only does this on file close to improve performance.

You mean on File open yeh?

This should only be occurring if the file isn't being closed properly. Normally, the file is marked when it closes properly, if it isn't, this scan attempts to find all the empty blocks of the file (which would normally have been removed by the closing process).
