June 25, 200718 yr Newbies Hello, I'm working on installing FMSA 8 on Windows 2000 Server. When I go through the initial stages of setting up the WPE user, no matter what I enter, as soon as I hit submit, it says, "There was an error." When I go back and try resuming configuring, it stops me at the WPE login and won't let me proceed, even though I entered the username and password I just set. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Server and Web Publishing app and it does the same thing every time. I've tried the simplest username and passwords, wpe & wpe1, and it won't let me passed that screen. The strange thing is, I reinstalled the OS and it still does it. Does anyone know what config file holds these usernames & passwords so I could try deleting it? Any thoughts on what's happening here? TIA,
June 25, 200718 yr Are you doing it on Win 2k sp4? I've never tried it on that but know that it works on 2k3. You might also try on XP first to see if you can get it working. I doubt it has anything to do with your user name and password as that would'nt produce "there was an error". You are using IIS yes?
June 25, 200718 yr Author Newbies Thanks for replying... Yes, the 2K Server box has been patched to Service Pack 4... and, yes, I'm using IIS... I was able to set this up on XP Pro w/IIS, no problem, however it's a production environment and the client is adamant that it be W2K Server for no good reason, so I'm trying to persuade them to just go with XP Pro in the interest of, y'know, getting it to work. The strange thing to me was that I completely reinstalled the OS and had the same problem. It seemed to me that it, then, must be a result of some conflict of a default setting in Windows 2000 Server, but if that were the case, I'd guess the problem would be more common... Unless no one uses Windows 2000 Server anymore... but that doesn't seem likely. Either this, or something unique to the way the software installs on this particular hardware. I agree, I doubt it has anything to do with the username/password, it seems to me more like a corruption of whatever file holds the WPE config. Anyone currently running FMSA 8 on a Windows 2000 Server box? Anyone else have anything like this? Anyone know where I can wipe out that WPE user/pass?
June 25, 200718 yr Lol XP isn't supported I just do it sometimes because i have no choice - I'd be careful with that, never know what Might happen. Anyway... I remember reading something similar to this but can't remember where... probably on this forum.. Have you tried patching to FMSA 8.04?
June 25, 200718 yr Author Newbies Yeah, it's running 8.0v4 ... I've scoured the forums and Filemaker knowledge base but haven't come up with anything yet...
June 29, 200718 yr I am also having trouble logging into the Web Publishing Admin Console. Cannot get username and password to work. However, in my case, I am not sure I have the correct username/password. I have taken over site from a previous administrator and do not know what he entered. Is there a way to reset the username and password for this console? I run Server Advanced on XP, IIS.
June 29, 200718 yr 1. Trying running Server Advanced on an approved OS. Use Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 for FMSA. 2. Stop all the FMS services, including the helper and the 2 Web Services. at C:Program Files|FileMaker ServerFileMaker Server 8Web PublishingConf locate and delete: cwpe_mcc config_properties.xml wpc_prefs Reboot. This clears the Admin Console settings and you can start over. HTH Steven
