Importing records from excel; serial numbers not being generated?!

Featured Replies

I recently converted some of our lab's old filemaker 5.5 databases to 8.5. Most everything is well and good, except a little problem that cropped up on Friday.

We receive task orders from the NIH in excel format, and have traditionally just imported the data into new records in our database. However, since converting to 8.5, when we import the records, the incrementing serial numbers aren't generated for the new records. is this a new 'feature' of 8.5? or is this some kind of bug or glitch?

We can do a workaround, by duplicating all of the records we import, and the duplicates magically take on an incremented serial number, but this seems like a lot of tedium for something that just worked before the upgrade.

any feedback on this issue would be appreciated.

Do you have 'Perform auto-enter options...' checked when doing the importing?

The Import Options dialog box does not appear when we select the excel file. It goes straight to the Import Field Mapping dialog. Is there a way to 'force' Import Options to appear?

It comes AFTER the field mapping and you hit the Import button.

this problem has been resolved, thanks.

My boss was the one running into the problem, apparently she's doing something right now.
