June 29, 200718 yr Newbies I have ten users whose copies of 8.5 Installed using the downloaded Volume Licensing installer. I don't have a boxed copy. Now one of my users has been given a new PC. Is there an easy way to transfer the licensed Filemaker installation to the new PC? The installer says the license key is invalid. Please don't tell me I have to buy a new license!
June 29, 200718 yr Make sure you are typing the company name correctly as listed in the PDF you received from FileMaker with the install key. If the Company Name is wrong I believe you will get an error. Michael
June 29, 200718 yr Yeah, I kinda thought those VLA licenses were cross platform. You should probably contact FileMaker directly for license support.

June 29, 200718 yr It's case sensitive too, so you'll probably want to copy and paste it directly from the pdf they sent you with the license code.
June 30, 200718 yr Author Newbies Thanks for the replies. My problem is that I don't have any access to free tech support. That's whuy I was hoping someone here knew the answer. The installer worked for the ten licenses I was entitled to. Now I want to transfer one of the licensed instalations to a new PC.
June 30, 200718 yr Author Newbies Yes, I tried them. Just an hour earlier I had used the installer to install my tenth and last license. I know I did it the same way, and I double checked the entries when it failed.
June 30, 200718 yr I don't think the installer keeps track of how many times it's been run. This is why we're leaning towards a problem with the company name. I think you can probably get free phone support from FileMaker for this, since it's an installation problem: http://filemaker.com/support/phone.html
July 2, 200718 yr Author Newbies I apologize. I feel like an idiot. Apparently, I mis-entered something. You guys are right the VLA doesn't keep track of whether the licenses have all been installed. In partial defense of my having thought it did, Filemaker certainly intends to implement a system that will require you to "activate" your license. The "activation" will keep track of your computer's unique footprint as well as the license key employed. Thank you. I would never have tried it again if you guys had not insisted I had to have entered something wrong.
