changing 1 field in 1 records and have it update multiple records

Hi,

I'm a newbie to FileMaker. I have a product database that has duplicate records of the same product - lets 123A, 123B, 123C for example. Each product has a price field. I would like to update only the 123A price field and have the 123B and 123C price fields update automatically.

Any ideas?

thanks.

Have you studied relationships yet?

If you separate the product description from the prices into 2 files then you will be able to have price info related back to the products.

As each of the product records are pointing at the same price record then when ever you change the price for product 123A, the other similar products will have their prices changed as well.

If you haven't studied relationships yet then now is the time to do so - it is absolutely key to FMP.

Thanks for the quick response. I will study the capabilities of relationships. If I separate descriptions and price into 2 files, while FM still have the cability to export the data as one flat file DB?
