web viewer - file is directory

I am trying to access a directory through a web viewer. When I set the path for the web viewer to:

file:///users/mycomputer/

All I get is

file is directory

Can anyone tell me how I can get this to work on a mac.

its not possible with webviewer or safari for that matter on os x.
