August 9, 200718 yr What do people do when they make a new version of their file and export the information-- what happens with pictures, sounds, and movies in container fields. How is that backed up to someplace else and reimported or placed into the new files. I have graphics which respond to conditions in a file and they are are .jpg files in my database. what happens to those when I try to upgrade my file. Is there anyway to deal with this problem of not being able to export or import container fields. I can export as a filemaker file. But I have several tables in it with sounds and pictures. Does every table have to be addressed or is there a way to export a filemaker file with all tables at once? Thanks Edited August 9, 200718 yr by Guest
August 9, 200718 yr Don't export/import via text-only data files. Import the old data directly into the new file via a FileMaker-to-FileMaker import. "Does every table have to be addressed" Yes, in the same way that every file would have to be addressed individually in a multiple file solution. So really there is no nett loss or gain. Set up some administration script to automate stuff like this, then keep them updated as the data structure changes.
