Merit Solutions Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 For some reason when importing data from one table (CompetitorMembers) into another (same FM file) table (ProjPartners) it always wants to import ALL records not just those in the found set. I can usually do this and have scripts already doing so in the same solution (with different tables). Why is it importing ALL records from this table?
Fenton Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 That is weird. It's within the same window also? (different windows can have different found sets). You say FileMaker Pro Advanced 8. Is it the latest version of 8? The earlier versions of 8 had numerous bugs.
IdealData Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Here's a clipping from the help system "To import only a portion of the records in a FileMaker Pro file, open the file and perform a find so that the found set in the current window contains only the records you want to import. (For more information, see Finding records.) FileMaker Pro determines the found set to import from the foreground window in the file. If you import records from a closed file or an open file that is not displaying any windows, FileMaker Pro imports all the records, regardless of any found set." Was the source file already open with a window open when you imported? If not then all records will be imported.
Merit Solutions Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 The problem appears to be that the "Current Window" must by necessity be the Target Table rather than the Source Table. The Source Table is therefore necessarily in the background!
Merit Solutions Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 Strange... it was down to the found set being in its own window. Although that window was left open (showing two found records), the Import was taking its data from the current window's (albeit a sepearate layout) records. All sorted now - thanks
