Synchronize 2 windows to same record

is there anyway to synchronize 2 windows/layouts so that when the user changes a record, both views switch to show.

I assume I could do this with buttons and code, but is there anyway to get this same functionality to happen when the user uses the controls in the status area?

Seems like the answer is no. I couldn't find any way to override the 'Go to Record' -> 'Specify...' menu item which, I believe, would likely be the only way to override the default behavior for the status area thing.

Most solutions that I have seen implement multiple windows use a back/forward/specific/search navigation scheme tied to a script.
