mleiser Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 When I go into accounts and privileges it shows me all the account names but no passwords. In version 6 I used to see the passwords. Is there any way to do that with version 7?
Vaughan Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 No. FMP 7 and later do NOT have passwords stored in the file. Instead, "hashes" of the passwords are stored, which are a kind of encrypted copy. But by the nature of hash functions there is no way to un-encrypt the hash and see what the original password was. This is one of the reasons why FMP 7+ files are significantly more secure than earlier versions.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 What Vaughan said. We worked for over 3 1/2 years to get this system perfected. It's still not 100%, but the new (i.e. .fp7 format) security schema is very much an improvement by leagues over its predecessors. It is alos much more in line with indsutry standards. You might find this Security Tech Brief from the FMI Web Site of use, even if I did write it. Steven
