Newbies jmh1956 Posted September 14, 2007 Newbies Posted September 14, 2007 I have set up a letter in layout view in a text box with merged fields and would like to send the finished product via the "send mail" in scriptmaker. Is there a way to get the finished letter into a field so it can be sent in the body text of the email? Or even if I could cut and paste the merged document. Browse mode will not allow you to cut and paste a text box. Maybe export to a word doc? I have also tried to format the letter in a calculation field and inserting the fields there. It worked but it is a large letter with many paragraphs,I am not well versed in using symbols to control the editing. This could probably be done. Mine just turned out to be one huge paragraph. Any advice on that would also be appreciated. thanks in advance
Fitch Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 The merge text on a layout can't be sent to an email or a field or an export. You're on the right track with a calculation. Wherever you want a paragraph in a calculation, you need to use the paragraph symbol (¶) (pilcrow for you typographicalistas). In your version of FileMaker (5?) the symbol has to be in quotes, either on its own: "text" & "¶" & "more text" or within other quoted text: "text¶more text" Actual line breaks and other white space in a calculation is ignored.
