Hello. Hopefully someone can help guide me through creating a report. I've just spent three long days experimenting, referencing 2 books, searching forums, and viewing multiple videos/demo files - all to no avail.

I have a permitting db. Simplified, it contains a table of permits and a table of types of permits (approx. 15).

What I would like to do is generate a report showing the counts of each type of permit in a given time frame. Sounds easy enough but I have no hair left! More specifically, I'd like to list only those permit types that have been issued in the time frame.

I've tried so many different things that I've thoroughly confused myself and don't know where to begin anymore.

Ultimately I'd like an even more complex report, but I'd settle for the above for now. I hope to have a report giving counts for each type of permit for each month of the year and a total for each type of permit for the whole year.

I'd greatly appreciate any insight.

Okay, I think I've got it finally. I created two new fields as calculations finding the year and the month the permit is issued. I then used 3 sub-summary parts based on year, month, and type_id. All works well ???
