Newbies Tralogik Posted October 26, 2007 Newbies Posted October 26, 2007 Hi, I've been using FileMaker Pro 6 for many years. For some reason, it now takes more than a minute to open a file. It stops at "Loading done TCP/IP" (sorry, my client is in French and the original message is "Chargement effectué TCP/IP"). I tried to disable the TCP/IP option, but nothing changes. It rather stops at "Initialization"??? (Initialisation) I have the same files on another computer, and they open as fast as before. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the program, but the same issue occurs. Thanks in advance for your help! JS
Ted S Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 It seems to me that version 6 on the Windows platform got slow when its usual printer went away. If you recently replaced or changed your default printer this *may* be the cause. Version 7 and up doesn't seem to get so 'attached' to a printer but I have recollections of version 3 thru 6 getting quite slow when the default printer went away. There were a couple ways to solve the problem as I remember: 1. Uninstall/reinstall Filemaker Pro on the workstation. 2. Delete the printer value stored in the Windows registry. I don't remember the specifics so I recommend option 1.
Newbies Tralogik Posted October 26, 2007 Author Newbies Posted October 26, 2007 Hi Ted S, no I did not add nor change any printer. I did not add any software either. I did a defrag last night as well. I tried to remove and reinstall the software but it did not work. Thanks!
Squeaky Data Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Are there any plugins being used that may need network access? I had an SQL plugin that would slow the launch of FileMaker if the remote SQL server could not be accessed.
Newbies Tralogik Posted October 29, 2007 Author Newbies Posted October 29, 2007 Hi Squeaky Data, I don't have any SQL plugin installed.
