How do you edit tabs when using templates?

I am currently trying to edit the tabs when using the Event Management Template. When I enter layout mode, and double click the tab, I am able to get into the Tab Control Setup, but all the options are greyed out except for cancel.

Is there any way to either, edit the tabs that come in the template or delete the original tabs once I have copied them? (since I am able to edit the copies)

Is there a button that needs to be checked/unchecked?

Is the tab panel a locked object? I've similar behavior when i lock my tab panels into place so I can't move them around

The tab object is Locked, which makes it much easier to work with objects inside, rather than accidentally dragging the tabl object all the time. You can tell it's locked because the selection squares at its corners are gray, not black. Click once on it, then go to the Arrange menu and choose Unlock. When you're done, choose Lock again.

If you work with layouts a lot, it is very useful to learn the command keys for these two commands. So you can quickly lock and unlock. Beats heck out of always dragging/changing the wrong thing.
