Web Publishing & Multiple Database Servers

I'm hoping that I'm missing something, but it appears that it is no longer possible since 9 to have a configuration where the Web Publishing Engine can communicate with 2 FileMaker Servers so long as both database servers had the same WPE password. (I realize version 9 no longer uses WPE passwords, but pointing out how is was possible in version 8)

I have a database on 1 FileMaker Server that has related data on different FileMaker Server.

I used to be able to use IWP to publish the database on Server #1, and even though some of the data was on a different server, it would still work properly. I cannot get version 9 to function this way.

Is this true or am I missing something?

- FileMaker 9.02 Server Advanced (2 Separate Legal copies with different install codes)

- Windows 2003 SP2 Servers

- IIS 6 on Windows 2003 Server

I'm running IIS & the WPE on the same machine, and the 2 database servers are on different machines.

Thanks for any insight or validation.

If a file (File A) on the main database server references a file (File B ) hosted by a second database server, then the IWP publishing of that file B is supposed to occur through the reference from FIle A. The server where File B resides is not part of the setup in the console however.

Take a look at the Server Install Help Guide from FMI, and see Tech Info # 5976 as well.

Thanks for the link Steven. I think we've both overlooked a short, but important note in the FileMaker Server 9 Help Guide.

In the section "Using Instant Web-Publishing" under "Hosting websites", bullet #2 reads (bolding added for emphasis)B)

Upload the database file to FileMaker Server with the Upload Database assistant. See Hosting databases (page 31). Note If your FileMaker database solution uses more than one FileMaker database file, all of the database files must be on the same computer.

What you describe is exactly what I was expecting, because that's what I was doing on Server 8, but Server 9 took a step backwards and unfortunately no longer supports this configuration.
