Value lists from a field with multiple items inside?

Hello!

My boss wants me to create a new form in Filemaker but I’ve never used it before. I have spent the last couple days researching Filemaker but I have not been able to figure it out a solution that does what he wants.

I have been able to figure out how relationships and value lists work but not how to populate a new value list from several items in the same field and display each with its own radial button.

Let’s say that I have a Table called Cameras. Inside that table I have a field named Stock. That field has all the possible tape stock for that particular camera like:

Camera: Sony Blah

Stock: Tape1, Tape2, Tape3

Camera: Panasonic Blah

Stock: TapeA, TapeB, TapeC

Now I need to create a form where you can choose a type of camera from a drop-down list and have a field display all the possible format options and allow the user to check off one of the radial buttons.

So the user would specify a camera, Sony Blah, and have Tape1, Tape2, Tape3 all display with their own radial button. Or specify Panasonic Blah, and have TapeA, TapeB, TapeC display with their own radial button.

Is it possible to create a conditional value list from a field with multiple items listed inside and have it displayed as a list of separate radial buttons?

I really appreciate any help you can give! Thanks!

You have defeated the intrinsic design of filemaker by putting multiple comma separated values into a single field. It would be better to define a second table called 'stock' and relate this to the cameras table by a cameraID field. View the 'stock' as a portal inside the Camera layout.

This will make much better use of FMP features including the definition of Value Lists and the creation of 'radio' buttons.

You are completely right. I was making it more complex than it needed to be. Thanks for your response!
