Find and replace in multiple fields

Featured Replies

I need to find a way to to eliminate the character " from multiple fields in my 18,000+ records with 60 fields. With some of the exported data, it has been assigned a text qualifier (").

Unfortunately, this is now showing some fields with a " at the front and end. This is especially bad when there is a size 8-1/2" because they also have extra quotes.

So what I am trying to do is create a script i guess that will go through all the fields and replace the " with a space or delete it.

Bonus points if I can remove the extra " in measurements so "8-1/2"" would be 8-1/2".

thanks for any help.

If this is a one time process, and you don't have too many individual tables involved, you might consider the following:

- Export the entire data set as a tab delimited text file.

- Open the file in your favorite word processor and do a search/replace on the big dog.

- Import your clean data back into FileMaker

Don,

that would be the easiest idea for sure.

After all my looking into it i wasn't even thinking that way at all.

Kinda kicking myself for it.

I'll pull the 18,000 records and correct them that way. Thanks for your idea.

I had a hammer, so everything was looking like nails.
