Newbies KEA Scott Posted December 28, 2007 Newbies Posted December 28, 2007 We have several databases that are all interconnected. On them it seems that if we get to many layouts we have a problem where we can not manualy move to the layout using the drop down on the left side of the screen. On a couple we have over 200 layouts 1 has over 350! If I have to get to layout 100 I have to type the number in while in layout mode. I can often get to the first 50 or so layouts without any problem. It seems to be after 75 or so that when I select the layout I get sent to the last layout. Anyone have any idea if this is a bug or what. I can provide any info needed.
Søren Dyhr Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 If focus is at the development, might there be some point in straining the lists, to show only the most important, a crafty developer should know how make extra script snippets to work their way around! If the focus is the wear and tear the users of the solution deals with wouldn't I in my solution have anything like the status area shown at all. Some studies in workflows would establish what actually is needed, perhaps with some restraints to what should be shown at all in the layouts. http://www.smallco.net/RestrainYourself.pdf Tabbed layouts might be a way to reduce the number of layouts, even with invisible panes if required. --sd
IdealData Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I have seen similar behaviour in Entourage when then pre-emptive list of contacts would be shorter on some systems, in fact shorter on the same system with 2 monitors. Eventually I tracted it down to the available VIDEO RAM - strange, but true! Try inceasing the file cache settings to FMP in the preferences, maybe 12Mb. It should improve performance too.
