December 30, 200718 yr I've developed a runtime app with FM Pro 8.5 Advanced that I hope to sell to a targeted industry. I developed it on a Mac and all works fine. But when I tried it on a PC with Windows XP some fields don't print where they are supposed to in a text layout. In both browse and preview mode these fields appear where they are supposed to, but when I print to document they appear several character spaces away or even on the wrong lines. Is there a simple fix to this that I'm missing??
December 30, 200718 yr You need platform specific layouts, which you turn to in your scripting with this: http://www.filemaker.com/help/FunctionsRef-271.html --sd
December 30, 200718 yr Author Saren, Thanks for the reply, but I'm still confused. In fact, I feel pretty dumb right now. Once I "get" he system platform, then what? Where do I put this script step? Does this then require an "If" function? I sure do appreciate the help. Thanks.
December 30, 200718 yr Design a separate set of layouts on a PC and see what's posible, often will there be jumps in font size as well as different shape of pixel to take care of. --sd
January 2, 200818 yr Author Saren, are you suggesting that I need to redesign each layout on a PC? There are 37 layouts that would require months to rewrite/redesign. Surely there must be a simpler way to make this useable on a PC...I hope.
January 3, 200818 yr I don't think you need separate layouts for each platform, unless you're doing something very elaborate. However, you do need to mind a few rules. Here's some suggested reading: http://www.filemaker.com/help/06-Create%20and%20manage52.html http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/121405/ http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/145196/ http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/171157/ http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/183925/ http://www.fmforums.com/forum/showtopic.php?tid/189453/ You also mentioned that the problem appeared only when printing "on a PC with Windows XP". I take it to mean you tested only on one machine. You should test on more systems, to see if the problem is Windows-related or specific to the computer you tested.
January 10, 200818 yr Author Thank you very much! This was very helpful and I appreciate your thorough explanation. Dave
