Hi all,

This is more of an issue with Apple Mail than with FMP, but since I'm using FMP to generate the message I'll run the issue by you.

I'm on Leopard 10.5.1 using Mail3.1 and FMP 9.0.3. I use FMP "Send Mail" script step (no dialog) to send notifications out via Mail. It usually works just fine. But every once in a while when the script is run, I can see that the mail message is created in Mail, all looks normal, and then the mail message disappears. It isn't saved as a draft, queued in an outbox, nor is it sent. It simply ceases to exist, as far as I can tell. I haven't been able to find any pattern as to when it occurs. It appears to occur randomly.

Has anyone else experienced this? The only difference I can definitely point to is it worked 100% of the time under Tiger. FYI Mail comes up in a different "space" (Re: Leopard Spaces).

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have had exactly the same issue. I'm using Leopard (10.5.1) and Filemaker Pro Advanced 9.0.3. Occasionally, my send mail script runs and then the email doesn't appear in Mail. The only difference I have is that the message usually appears in my drafts mailbox a few hours later or the next day.

When it doesn't work I usually run the mail script again and it's fine.

You're not using 'Spaces' in OS X are you as I run 'Mail' in one space and Filemaker in another which doesn't seem to run faultlessly!

Something similar happened one time to me also. The message didn't go out as expected, I couldn't find the missing message in Mail, so I manually recreated it and sent it manually. A couple of hours later as I was working I heard the sound for outgoing mail (which surprised me) and it was that message being sent. I have no idea where it was hiding all that time. This wasn't an internet connection issue, since I had sent and received without a problem in the interim.

I am using Spaces, and Mail and FMP open in different Spaces on my workstation. I've been wondering if this is the culprit. Maybe I'll turn off Spaces for a spell and see if I can get the problem to repeat.

Thanks for your reply!

For what it's worth, I found a way to make some of my missing messages reappear in Mail. When I have missing messages like I described above, if I quit Mail and reopen it, they appear in the Outbox and are sent automatically. I tried this twice and it worked both times. But this still doesn't explain why some from the past have never reappeared, even after quitting and reopening Mail.

I'm turning off Spaces now and will post any changes I observe.

I disabled Spaces a few days ago and after about 30 emails I haven't experienced the weird behavior described above (about 1 out of 3 failed before).

I'm pretty sure Spaces is the culprit. Too bad, it's really useful. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

After a long run of many successfully sent emails since I disabled Spaces, the problem returned. Is anyone else seeing this problem occur under any circumstances? I'm totally stumped.

FWIW This has only happened when FM performs the Send Mail script step. It hasn't happened when I send emails directly from Mail.
