Hello,

I am a complete newbie to databases, not just Filemaker :) So please be gentle!

I need a book that will explain the basics (FM9) in simple, easy to use language. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am looking to create a database that does customer info, shipping deets, quotes, previous orders invoices, accounting etc

Many Thanks for your help!

IMHO is it usually going under the term "Non scolae sed vitae" and doens't carry an ISBN number unfortunately. More or less what Joyce says here:

“Irresponsibility is part of the pleasure of all art; it is the part the schools cannot recognize.”

My point is that you can't let books get you there, they're merely just tools, because most books havn't enough emphasis on the method. The basic ingredience is to have a clear inner image of what you wish to achieve, far from the BS you would wind yourself into when mingling at a reception.

You should learn to enjoy the journey just as much as the arrival to a result, recognizing that it's only the hard knocks you're likely to receive when practicing learns you to approach a solutions development with a sense of what works and what doesn't.

To answer your question. There are several good books that have been written about "How To" in FileMaker.

Start with the one that is in the box with your disk. The User Guide walks you through the basic of FileMaker. Beyond that, you will find many of the Books, Videos, Classes, Seminars, etc. discussed in the Different Topic of the Marketplace. Read all of the reviews in Product Reviews Topic, you will need to change the History to "[color:blue]All Dates" form Forum Default, in order to see anything. You will find that option in the Detail Area of the page.
