Aussie John Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 (edited) Hi just downloaded the trial version in preparation for a real install later. 1) Server seems to upload the selected projects. Is it making a copy or referring back to the original 2) Does it matter if the original in located on the network or is it best on on the server machine. 3) Once a file is loaded it then is greyed out and cant remove it - wondering what is going on there. 4) will server take advantage of dual processors/cores as I would like to serve standard files from the new Xserve and host other services on the same machine. 5) are the backups incremental (ie keeps older backups or do they overwrite) thanks Edited February 10, 2008 by Guest
Steven H. Blackwell Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 You need to read the Server Tech Brief as well as the Server Admin Guide that comes with the product. Your questions indicate that you're headed into highly unfamilar territory for you, and you're going to trip over a number of items unless you do some research prior to deployment. Several basic points: 1. FileMaker Server should run on a dedicated machine, not on a shared one. 2. You specify the backup behavior. 3. Completely uninstall the trial version and reboot before installing the shipping version of either FileMaker Server 9 or FileMaker Server 9 Advanced. 4. Databases go on the same machine as the Server daemon in either the designated default folder or in an alternate one you designate. Steven
