Newbies Sean F Posted February 21, 2008 Newbies Posted February 21, 2008 (edited) I've been using FileMaker to mashup data between several of our SQL Server and mySQL databases. I have one mySQL database which crashes every time I try to add a relationship to it in my database. Other databases on the same server behave fine and I can also use ODBC to import from the problem database; but creating a direct relationship always causes a crash. The database is hosed on mySQL 4.1.18 and I'm using FileMaker 9.0v3 on Mac OS 10.5.2 with Actual Open Source driver 2.8c. Any ideas on what could be causing a problem with this one database? Thanks, Sean Edited February 21, 2008 by Guest
mr_vodka Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Well we have been using the ESS feature since FM9 first came out... I have reported speed issues to the FMI engineers. In our case, our computer is practically frozen when connecting to the Peoplesoft Oracle Database. We can not move anything in the graph for at least 10 minutes or so... However, all the other connections to MS SQL Server are fine. It only has issues with connecting Oracle. So we ended up importing with Execute SQL into a table. Anytime we tried to even save or move around the graph with Oracle connected, it held our system hostage. We had our Oracle guys check it and it seems as though FM load the entire library of data dictionary when establishing a connection. They said that might explain the issue but not 100%. Perhaps it could be a driver issue or something... dunno.
Newbies Sean F Posted February 22, 2008 Author Newbies Posted February 22, 2008 mr_vodka, thanks for responding. It sounds like we might have different problems since I'm not seeing any performance problems with the relationships that have been made. The data I'm accessing isn't too complex so I'm hoping to change the workflow from a periodic table import to a live Filemaker view of the info. Except for this one crash it's all working...
mr_vodka Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I beg to differ. I think the the issues may be related. I did not say that I had issues with the relationships that were made. I said that we had issues when adding the Oracle table occurence to the graph. In your case it seems to completely crash it. We are running it on a pretty decent server with stocked up hardware so perhaps it keeps it from crashing as well. Have you tried creating a brand new file and seeing if you can add the MySQL table there?
Newbies Sean F Posted February 22, 2008 Author Newbies Posted February 22, 2008 Yes, this is all done in a brand new file. I hadn't thought about server-side issues, though I can create relationships to other, larger databases on that same mySQL server without problems. I'll look at what I can try at the server. To add more testing info: this all works fine if I do it on a Filemaker client for Windows. But if I open that Filemaker database file on a Mac client, Filemaker will crash after about 10 secs of the spinning beach ball. So it seems to be either a mac FM or mac mySQL driver issue.
