Scanning documents into FileMaker

What's the best way to scan documents into FileMaker? It looks like there's no way to do it out of the box. Are there any plugins that will provide this functionality? I'm surprised that this is not a standard feature in FM since it is a fairly common requirement.

Also there are methods of using an iSight Camera to capture images as well.

However - depending on the solution I would recommend away from storing the images inside your database especially for performance across LAN / WAN.
