Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I find server doesnt always restart when the machine restart although I have that checked in the settings. Anyone else get this? What version of FileMaker Server is this and what version of the OS? As a general rule, [color:red]it is not a good idea to set the server to restart automatically on reboot of the hardware. If there has been an inelegant shutdown, you need to examine the files very carefully for what level of damage has occurred as a result of the inelegant shutdown. Steven
Aussie John Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 It has become a little academic now has my trial has expired and will be a short while before we get the licence. Was running server 9 on a mac mini intel core 2 duo 2GHz Generally Im talking about a soft restart.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Don't restart the machine without first closing the files and stopping the FMS daemon/service. Steven
Aussie John Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 Thanks I had assumed it would quit gracefully like the standard database.
FM_SouthAfrica Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 It's does if you gracefully shut it down. But if you had a power failure or a crash it is always wise on next restart to open the database files through File Maker itself to allow for the cursory 'consistency check'. Thereafter you can quite FM and restart the FMS . . . oh yea be sure to install the FMS updates these are needed!
FM_SouthAfrica Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 p.s. FileMaker Server usually needs much much more memory than the Mac Mini can provide . . .
