Mandu Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I'm hoping to deploy a small invoice-writing application on an office LAN using a Filemaker's peer-to-peer sharing rather than a true server. The host computer will be largely dedicated to its role, running XP. There will be two or at most three guest computers accessing the host at any one time. Usage will be light. I know very little about FMS. Could someone comment on what sort of problems I may encounter using p2p sharing that FMS is designed to overcome? Thanks, Chap
jstaphse Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 The opinions here may differ, but I don't see any problems with p2p for a small deployment. Of course you don't get all the benefits of server, but for small group setups, It works fine. My last employer was too thrifty(Cheap!) to get the server version. We never had any performance issues.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Safety and integrity. Do not use peer to peer for anything that is valuable. Steven
