I have built a database for my Customer Service people that is used to track high resolution scans. This database has a container field that a picture is placed into. When a picture is placed into the fileamaker database, the size of the database GREATLY increases (200 to 300k each time). When this database starts to accumliate many records, it becomes large and slow. Is there a way to minimize the size increase when placing pictures?

Re: Importing Pictures

You can select 'store only a reference to the file' in the import picture dialogue box. This allows the db to retreive the pict when record is open, without actually placing the image in the db. Once the 'reference link' is created do not move the image or the file, or the link will be severed and must be reestablised.

Pasting a high resolution image into FileMaker just uses up a lot of space as upon pasting the resolution of the image is reduced to 72 dpi. The pasting of a reference is definitely the way to go. If your database is network enabled, you must place the file of images on a volume that all users can access. -bd
