summary field - sorting

I have a summary field in a portal that summarizes a monetary value for like records having the same value for another qualifying field in the portal:

Field1 Field2 Field3

00001 $100 $300

00001 $200 $300

00002 $500 $500

My issue is when I enter data for a new record in this portal (which is sorted for the summary field), the sort instantly occurs when I first enter the value for the first field. This messes up data entry because the field where the cursor ends up after the instant sort is not the field in the new record.

Is there any way to have a summary field in a portal where the sort does not instantly occur?
