I am trying to create a method of vehicle damage notification and wish to be able to draw a circle or square over a fixed drawing of a car side/front/back etc.

I have some thoughts, but am pretty stumped, if it is possible at all.

You can make invisible buttons by applying invisible lines in a group fitting the area above each relevant car area. The coloring is a bit tougher if you need that as well.

I think I would have image behind be arriving from table of all combinations of markings. Try to read the other similar thread with the turtles:

I humbly disagree here - I suggest a scripted setting of changing key values to usher in images with the chosen areas of the car reddened. The invisible button is made to follow the shape of each area.
