Hello

I have not been able to make the 'go to portal record (last)' command work with the web version of Filemaker.

The script that is executing this command is executing from within the portal and I am preceding this command with a 'go to object' command, which references the portal I am referring to.

It always ends up at the first record in the portal. Any ideas?

Couldn't you post the scripting here, it seems like the focus is disturbed by a "commit" somewhere??

Is it for freshing an unstored value you need to get to the row? In my tests doesn't the cursor go anywhere at all.

Why is this required at all - context and purpose???

The script is not refreshing--I commented that out. I don't understand what you mean by 'context and purpose'. I added the reference to the object because there are multiple portals on the layout--without it it navigates to the default portal and not the one you are creating the record in.

Also, sometimes when I create a new record the cursor is not in a field at all.

We have never been promised a completely constraint free dealings or manipulation of the user interface. The reason go to window and go to portalrow not are grayed out is that they work from the scripting perspective.

What I mean by context and purpose is that I presume that approaching a forum like this, although a quick fix is what actually is required - might replies easily miss the target if the bigger picture isn't taken in oath ... in short have I never done scripting like yours although I have been involved with IWP'ed projects.

With the danger of generalizing too much here (you had it comming!), would I dare to say that extensive scripting and especially under IWP is a sign of an inadequate structured database underneath.

Since reporting and IWP'ing are like dog and cat anyway, have we found in our IWP development that table-linkings better under these circumstances, are done by pilcrow delimited key-values in a text field serving as connection in a many2many relation, rather than the "proper" scripted generation of records in join tables. This means that we tend to use CF'es and calc'fields where you thought you needed scripting. If we then take a look at relational theory - will you again here discover that inadequately normalized solutions requires a lot more scripting than properly done normalizations and implementations.

Your wish to steer the actual location of the cursor, would I say is asking for more than catered for. I hope you with the lack of precisely putting you request into a perspective ... could only generate more overgeneralized guesswork to be flown in.

Why are you scripting the way you do?

What are you trying to achieve by going to the last portal row?

Why have you decided to embark on IWP development which have a much higher ROI threshold than straight forward client/server solutions?

Have you considered this:

FileMaker can be quirky. And just like anything, it's not the right tool for every job
