amidyne Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 On my database at work I have set up several different account privileges to allow/disallow access to different layouts. What my boss asked me to modify today was the number of users on a layout at any given time. He was concerned that data may get modified at the same time by 2 different people. I was wondering if there was a way to lock out other users from the layout when it is being modified. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
Steven H. Blackwell Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 FileMaker Pro handles this for you automatically. Only one user can be editing a given record any given time. If another user attempts to edit that record, the second user will get an error message. This process is known as record locking. Steven
amidyne Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 Thanks Steven, I hadn't considered this. As it turns out it was actually me who was causing the issues. I was updating the look of the layout and making it run better while people are on it, and it turns out sometimes they were having issues with what I was changing. Lesson Learned: Be more careful in the future
Steven H. Blackwell Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 I would counsel against making schema changes on hosted files generally, but especially when there are guests connected to the database. Steven
