Newbies Rev. Dennis Posted August 3, 2008 Newbies Posted August 3, 2008 (edited) First I apologize for my lack of experience with FM. I am trying to filter on a value list that is created from information from another table. In short... User enters the Transaction Table via the web browser. First option is to click the _kf_booth which references Booth Table. My current issue is the booths change products every year. So I created in the Booth Table in addition to Booth# and Product, I now also track Season(which is the year) and Location. I don't have any idea on how that value list the user clicks on via the Web in the Transaction Table can be filtered by Season/Year and Location so it would only show a List of the applicable Booth#'s and Products? Possible? Once the transaction has been entered into the transaction table with this information and next year comes around and the products change.. I don't want those old transactions to update with the new products at that booth... I would like just the new transactions to reflect the changes to the booth information. Am I reaching for a miracle? Is it possible without becoming an engineer? Any help is appreciated. Edited August 3, 2008 by Guest
Newbies Rev. Dennis Posted August 3, 2008 Author Newbies Posted August 3, 2008 I am attaching my original database file. If you make a change to the booths, it reflects the change on the transactions that have happened in the past. How can I have the transactions use what is currently setup in the booths table and never change even if the information in the booths table does change. Of course I don't want to see last years booths when I click the drop down/value list in transactions or via the reports, etc.. the only place I want to see the old booth information is in the past transactions. Make Sense? MI_Festival_v2.04_2008.fp7.zip
Newbies Rev. Dennis Posted August 4, 2008 Author Newbies Posted August 4, 2008 seeing how I am trying to figure this out, I created a simple database and am trying to figure out how to make this work (attached). Problem #1 Is it a "global" setting when you have a field that you want to set to be applied to any entry. For instance in the attached database (Weather, Location, Season). Problem #2 In the transactions layout, how do I filter on booths based on the "global" setting for location and season? Really appreciate any help you could offer this newbie. I have been looking through Using FileMaker 8 by Steve Lane, Scott Love and Bob Bowers but can't seem to find a reference. I have never put together an ERD but it has been suggested so I have attached my first ERD. Does this help with helping me find a solution? Please help.
