Server 9 temporarily on older hardware

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Mac G4 Cube (remember those?) with 500mb of RAM running a developer version of FileMaker Pro Server 7. Not ideal, but it works okay for my purposes.

I now want to upgrade to a full version of FileMaker Pro Server 9 so I'm going to need new hardware, but I'd like to wait until September before buying new Mac hardware.

So my questions is: if I buy FileMaker Pro Server 9 now would the installer let me install on my current system, just so I can get familiar with running with Server 9 or will the installer refuse to install on such a machine?

Thanks in advance for any advice,

Pat

it's anybody's guess whether this (1) will install or (2) run if it does install.

Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out.

Steven

I think the Cube will need Mac OS X 10.4.x as a minimum just to install.

Thanks to both of you for the replies.

In the end the server admin - an extremely wary chap - has decided that he'd prefer just to wait till we have a new machine before installing 9 as he's scared it might mess up the current 7 installation. So we're going to wait and I'm afraid I can't feedback as to whether installing on a Cube is possible or not.

Sorry to have wasted your time.
