PG Tips Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hi, I have a Mac G4 Cube (remember those?) with 500mb of RAM running a developer version of FileMaker Pro Server 7. Not ideal, but it works okay for my purposes. I now want to upgrade to a full version of FileMaker Pro Server 9 so I'm going to need new hardware, but I'd like to wait until September before buying new Mac hardware. So my questions is: if I buy FileMaker Pro Server 9 now would the installer let me install on my current system, just so I can get familiar with running with Server 9 or will the installer refuse to install on such a machine? Thanks in advance for any advice, Pat
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 it's anybody's guess whether this (1) will install or (2) run if it does install. Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out. Steven
Vaughan Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I think the Cube will need Mac OS X 10.4.x as a minimum just to install.
PG Tips Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Thanks to both of you for the replies. In the end the server admin - an extremely wary chap - has decided that he'd prefer just to wait till we have a new machine before installing 9 as he's scared it might mess up the current 7 installation. So we're going to wait and I'm afraid I can't feedback as to whether installing on a Cube is possible or not. Sorry to have wasted your time.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 You would have had to remove the FMS 7 before installing FMS 9. Steven
