How to import file 1 and update with file 2 which has multiple matches...??

Featured Replies

File 1 has orders with each "order #" as a record... so say 30 records.

File 2 has same orders with individual records for each item #.... so may be 30 or could be 31, 32, etc.

Problem is if someone has 3 items on 1 order the last item # imported is the only one that shows up for that order #.

Order #'s have to be unique and yet I need each item to import onto/into the next repetition or

something.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What Files? Filemaker files? From where are you importing?

If I were to guess, I'd say that you are importing Orders and Order Line Items. You need two tables on the FileMaker side (not repeating fields!). Relate Orders to Order Line Items by Order ID.

Import separately. First into Orders from File 1, then into OrderLineItems from File2.

These are tab delimited sales files and I had considered that....

What about after I fill the order and export the completed sales data to another Filemaker file for use/lookup later? I would think the file could get to large rather quickly.

Can you step back up a bit. I don't necessarily read all the posts, so I feel as if I've come in half way thru a movie.

What is your setup? There is another system from which you are getting sales data? Why do you worry about file size, there aren't any graphics...you don't need to import records you already have. Why are you importing in the first place?

Sorry... in a nutshell:

These are online sales from various web sites.

Orders are downloaded in tab del. files for import into my database for me to manage.

File size may not be an issue... I wasn't sure. It just seemed like I'm doubling up the info but mabye not.

How are you doubling up the info? Perhaps all you need is the OrderLineItems, then report on it using sub-summaries...
