Jesse Wright Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I was wondering if there was a practical way "stamp" CurrentDate/UserName when people add to a field, within the same field. For example, I'm building a solution to track Marketing leads and have a few fields for notes like Initial Contact Subject, Contact Results, Follow up, ect. What I would like to do is have Get ( CurrentDate ) & " " & Get ( UserName ) stamp after an entry to the notes. I don't think its possible without multiple fields, but what I would have liked to see is...say Joe starts up an initial contact and details his correspondence, then lets say Steve had a conversation with the contact the following day and adds to the initial correspondence. I would like a CurrentDate/UserName to stamp between their entries in the field. The way I see it working is to have multiple note fields, set sliding, and a separate field for the CurrentDate/UserName stamp; but that's not the way I would like it to work if possible, that would make for a long chunky form. Hope that wasn't too convoluted... Any ideas? Kind regards, Jesse Jesse Wright is online now Reply With Quote
Søren Dyhr Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 (edited) Since you can stack near endless of criterias in you relations def. do I not see much point in concatenating at all, you have in you profile written that you present version is fm9, why use a pre fm7 method at all??? No - keep straight to beat of the normalization drum, and keep these two detail in each their own fields ... I do only use concatenated fields in sub-summary reports, is this the task at hand?? My guess is that you can make a GTRR(SO) to a multi-criteria related other table or the present a self join. --sd Edited August 13, 2008 by Guest
Jesse Wright Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Thanks. My problem is that the end users are mostly luddites, so have to make things as simple as possible. I was hoping that there may have been a solution without having them enter data on a separate form, but it does make the most sense if I want to then pull all the correspondence to a single layout. Thanks for your input! Regards, Jesse
Søren Dyhr Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Then make a selfjoin with two unstored fields here comes these: http://www.filemaker.com/help/FunctionsRef-277.html http://www.filemaker.com/help/FunctionsRef-218.html ...in handy - locking perfectly to the two fields you originally would merge. The sj-portal view is still posible as back in fm6 mode. Perhaps you should study this template a bit: http://www.kevinfrank.com/download/county-highlight-in-portal.zip --sd
