Event-triggered scripting - how to handle existing records?

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I have just downloaded the myFMButler_DoScript plugin in order to trigger events based on changes in a field.

Basically, you call on a plugin script from an auto-enter calculation in e.g. a text field.

My question now is: this auto-enter will of course function on all newly created records, but how do I handle existing records??? The auto-enter won't work on old records anymore as this only happens on record creation, am I right? Or have I completely misinterpreted this auto-enter stuff?

Please advise!

You say that you have set up the plugin to trigger scripts base upon changes to a field. So with your existing records should you change the trigger field your script should fire...and only then.... or am I missing something in your question?

Having reread your your post I think that you might have misunderstood the 'autoentry' bit. You should have set up not an autoentry field ( which would apply to new records only) but a straightforward calc field which stays 'active' as long as the field is designated as such.

Look up calc fields in your help files. That should help you understand better
