HazMatt Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I'm setting up a new Xserve with two ethernet ports. I come from a world where computers have only one ethernet port so this is new to me. I have both plugged into my switch and both are configured manually (i.e. two static IP addresses). As I understand it, the switch handles the network load balancing so there is no probably no way to configure Mac OS X to pretend that I'm on a single NIC with a single IP address. SO, my question is, which IP address should I use for my opener file's data reference? I'm guessing it's just the first one, but I've got two to choose from. (And any gems of knowledge regarding network load balancing you want to impart would be appreciated)
IdealData Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I have an identical setup, both addresses work equally well. Open Remote will offer either IP address, but never both at the same time.
Vaughan Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Can a DNS be set up to point to both IPs? Then set the opener to the dns entry rather than the raw IP number.
HazMatt Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 I've never toyed around with DNS but I know what it is... Sounds like a good idea; I will give it a try. Thanks very much for the info... exactly what I was looking for.
