Genx Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Hey guys, A few people have continuously berated me at different points and I've done my best to explain how it is that port forwarding works in a text based format. In truth though, the explanations are never full blown and are just enough to scrape people through their particular issues. For a fairly decent (if i do say so myself) explanation of port forwarding, head on over to: http://www.filemakerdesign.com/blog/?bid=11 - I've tried to put this together as a static resource. If someone is having issues with port forwarding, please direct them to this post first (if you think its decent) - at least that way they will have a basic understanding of what it is and how it works. [HINT]IF YOU'RE HAVING ISSUES SETTING UP IWP FOR EXTERNAL ACCESS, THIS VIDEO IS PROBABLY WORTH WATCHING[/HINT]
Stuart Taylor Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Hey Alex, I would have to recommend Portforward.com as a guide to configuring your specific router as the terminology, methods and user interface differs greatly from router to router. best Stuart
Genx Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 That's entirely true, though just to clarify the vid itself relates to the concept - doesn't actually go into details of how to forward ports. Anyway, awesome resource that.
